Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare

www.hershamhounds.org

Here at out kennels in Hersham, Surrey, we care for between 50 and 60 Greyhounds who have retired from racing and are waiting to experience life as a family pet. Moving these Greyhounds away from a racing kennel environment into the more relaxed and restful homing kennel is their first step on this road. The majority of our Greyhounds adapt very well, and do not appear to miss their days on the track at all.

We are very fortunate to have a wonderful network of volunteer walkers and supporters, who help us to assess each Greyhound, their likes and dislikes, their strengths and weaknesses. All of this helps us to build up a picture of how they will cope in a home, and when the opportunity arises, we try to give each Greyhound a taste of life beyond these kennel walls.

Kim (Kinnagh Lass)
Birthday - 30th July 2002

A delightful, happy and friendly little girl, who would love to share a family home. Kim is good with other dogs.

Justin (Justin's Dream)
Birthday - 13 May 2001

Another one of our black boys that just keeps getting overlooked. But he's a happy, cheeky chappy, with a tail that just never stops wagging. He just loves everybody and desperately wants them to love him. Justin would enjoy an active family home, possibly with older children. He has met a smaller breed of dog, and behaved very well.

Visitors welcome every day between 10am and 3pm.

Every Greyhound who leaves our kennels for home is really just starting that long journey to becoming a family pet. Some adapt very quickly, and take all the new experiences in their stride. Others find the transition more difficult, and take more time to settle. However, the majority of our Greyhounds enjoy a wonderful retirement, and very quickly become a much loved member of their family. For those very few who cannot adapt to life in the outside world, we provide a home, here at the kennels. You can meet a few of our dogs on this page.

Please visit our website for more information and to check out a few more of our homeless hounds.

Topsy (Zodiac Starlight)
Birthday - 6th October 2002

An excitable, friendly girl, Topsy always bounces out to greet us. She's so cheeky and playful with us we tend to forget that she can be a little shy when meeting people she doesn't know for the first time. Take the time to get to know her, forgive her mistakes, and you'll have a friend for life.
