Our former Chairman, Stuart Locke-Hart, summed up the objects of the Federation in the following statement upon his appointment: "My involvement with FBGOA started some 10 years ago when I stood for committee, as I thought that owners got a rather raw deal considering what they bring to the Sport – namely the dogs, the raw materials upon which everything else relies. I subsequently stood for, and was elected Chairman and will continue to fight our corner for better financial and representational recognition for greyhound owners." The FBGOA is an organisation which represents affiliated owners’ associations from Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) licensed tracks, as well as recognised owner/trainer and homing associations. It has a voice, jointly, with the Greyhound Trainers’ Association (GTA) at the highest level, sitting on the board of the governing body. This representation also has a place on the board of the British Greyhound Racing Fund (BGRF) ensuring a voice for owners on both boards through their local associations. Within this remit, referred to under the terms of the Donoughue Report as the Practitioner, FBGOA also has a responsibility to represent the British Greyhound Breeders Forum. In recognition of this responsibility, the management committee of the Federation now includes representatives from both the GTA and the Breeders Forum and to this end both Bob Gilling (Breeders) and John Simpson (GTA) were invited to stand, and were elected in April 2010. What it can do for you...The Federation is committed to promoting the advantage of having an owners’ association at all stadiums. We will come and help to set up a basic association for anyone keen to get involved. This should be done with the knowledge and assistance of the track management as most now recognise that owners with their connections, patronage and promotion of facilities are an important part of the success of our Sport. The FBGOA is very aware that the three main topics that concern owners are:
The Federation has representation on committees which affect funding in all these areas including the GBGB Racing Committee, the Welfare Committee and the Board itself. We also have members who are trustees of the Retired Greyhound Trust. Most tracks have a retired greyhound body that helps to home greyhounds. These are usually made up of owners, welfareists, trainers and more often nowadays the track management. An FBGOA membership at a track can help maintain communication with the national organisations including the RGT and may help secure additional funding and support from central sources. How to get involved (see contact page)A joining fee for each affiliated Association of £35.00 is payable on 1st January each year. Only bona fide owners’ associations or their equivalent at registered GBGB stadiums can apply. Membership is not open to individuals, partnership or syndicates and the Federation has the right to accept/reject or expel members in certain circumstances. Each association upon joining as a member may nominate a representative to attend FBGOA meetings and vote.
